Hours

Hours is a series of drawings that come out of many long nights spent fighting through insomnia, brought on by struggles with chronic pain. Each drawing in the series is made from pencil crayon and on paper only, each a 6 inch by 6 inch square. Form, shape, line, colour, composition and unconscious associations are explored in this durational, serial work where each square drawing is the record of an hour within the artist’s life. This piece is still ongoing in its creation, with only a small portion of the work being made available for viewing due to the sheer size. With hundred of drawings already made and without the intention of stopping this piece’s creation process, Hours sits firmly as the magnum opus of Spencer Sheehan Kalina’s drawing practice.
